Receiving Dock Security Cage Installation for Food Distribution Center
QCD required a secure receiving dock enclosure at a high-traffic food distribution facility. With constant truck activity and outside drivers entering the building, the company needed a controlled access solution that protected inventory, limited liability exposure, and improved overall dock safety.
The Challenge: Securing a Busy Trucker Entrance
The receiving dock served as a primary access point for delivery drivers and third-party personnel. Without proper separation between drivers and warehouse operations, the facility faced increased risks of:
- Unauthorized access to inventory
- Theft and shrinkage
- Employee safety concerns
- Liability from non-employee injuries
The solution needed to maintain operational efficiency while clearly defining secure and restricted zones.
The Solution: Custom Wire Mesh Receiving Dock Enclosure
Western Storage and Handling designed and installed a 10′ x 20′ x 12′ high wire mesh security cage to fully enclose the trucker receiving dock entrance. The enclosure creates a controlled entry point while maintaining visibility and airflow within the warehouse.
The system includes a vertical sliding pass-through door for paperwork exchange and a single-sided bar-release pedestrian door to allow controlled access when necessary.
Results: Improved Safety, Security, and Liability Control

The new receiving dock enclosure clearly separates drivers from warehouse operations, improving both security and compliance.
Project outcomes include:
- Reduced theft risk and controlled inventory access
- Safer traffic flow within the dock area
- Defined pedestrian access for non-employees
- Increased protection against liability exposur
